A commission piece comes to life! Working within a loose circle and trying to keep the composition symmetrical without exact mirroring made this such a blast to create for my dear friend @ecerier Look for the many layers in the water surface texture, dark distance line, loose wash, then layer after layer of every other green, blue, and brown I already had in the palette. Until this weekend I thought that lakeside days were just around the corner but maybe we have to wait a little longer for the snow to melt. ♥️

I feel so special and honored every time I’m asked to do a commission, and this one is no exception! Lakeside views, Spanish moss, & cypress trees…I couldn’t dream of a better spot for a wedding ceremony, and I love the idea of using a painting of your natural altar for invites and more! Congratulations @ecerier ♥️

I did the line work in this sketch in person at a @sawtoothhanover open mic comedy night last year. I wanted to fill it out with more color and movement without adding too much extra background detail so that the focus stays on the figures in the foreground. Playing with color and texture (with my favorite salt technique) is always fun, and keeping things simple makes this a very interesting piece!

Colorful river boats and one mangy pelican seen from the water. ♥️💙💜💛💚 While I was watching this bird, fascinated - I’ve never seen a pelican up close - it yawned! When pelicans, and other similar birds, yawn they invert the pouch beneath their beaks over their neck and chest. This is called glottis exposure and has a very creepy look. When the bird is mid yawn you can see their whole spine. I always thought that this is something that birds do to cool down, but apparently that is some nonsense that went viral as a meme a couple of years ago and it isn’t true at all. 🦤
